  2. Now that I do understand…… I’ve been writing poetry all night in my head 😳it was only when I woke up during the night that I realised that I was doing it! I am like a well that keeps on filling 😬 Or a musical but instead of singing I am rhyming …..arghhhh 🙃🙂

  3. Yes this is it … sometimes I don’t understand the words I post yet feel them as I write … as for the words of others … so much more … sometimes the still, the silence amidst the bustle overwhelm as taken to another world …

  6. I’m sorry, but personally because I have an analytical personality I have to understand poems in order to feel them. Poems written only for the poet to understand isn’t fair for the reader, what about us? I’ve been in Google Plus Communities where poets called themselves poets but couldn’t even explain what thier poem was even about if you were to asked them what it meant. So how would you explain that??

    1. For me, poem is like a painting. You don’t ask the painter what he meant and what he painted. Some paintings are straightforward and understandable, but some not – like surrealism movement. I look at poetry the same way. You can like it or dislike it – it’s still the feeling. It might have strong images and able to evoke certain emotions within me, even though I might not completely understand it. It doesn’t mean it’s bad – it’s just different. That’s what I’m looking for in poetry. Poetry is completely different from prose – in my modest opinion. It holds that aspect of mysteriousness and ambiguity, it’s open to interpretation.       1. Not to confrontational, but I love art. I love surrealism art. I love abstract art, as a matter fact I had a whole separate blog dedicated to art, and I do understand about different interpretations of both art and poetry. I write poems almost everyday on my own personal blog and I try to make it understandable to the reader and Im also very symbolic and metaphoric in my poetry. However, I wish that I could understand other people poetry thsts not clear. I really do want to. And it’s not like I don’t like other people’s poetry it’s just that I don’t understand some people’s poetry and because of this it makes me feel stupid. That’s all I’m saying.

I know what you mean and it can bring frustrations, but I believe it’s just like with any piece of art – there is always going to be something not understandable and also not of high quality. I particularly try to appreciate the effort person into their writing and look for the value at least from that point of view.

      3. Thank you. May I send you an excerpt of a poet within this community who almost everyone had the hardest time understanding? I tried so very hard to because I wanted to be supportive. He poetry was always so…dark. She like mine, called it Confessional poetry.

  8. I really like the way you (Maja & she) have expressed your views, I find it helps me. I’ve been asked twice this week to explain aspects of my words. My instinct to say they are feelings written as they come, yet my conscience when asked a question wants to do it’s best to answer, even if the answer is perhaps vague. I write as a release, from what I’m not entirely sure and not sure I want to know, so this where my vagueness comes from, nothing more.

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Eric (I hope I correctly remembered your name). My aim is to encourage people to write – no matter what somebody says. You may or not explain yourself – it’s up to writer/artist. And because people sometimes get silly comments and questions, they simply stop creating. That’s so wrong! You are entitled to your own expression and there will be always someone who doesn’t get you. And I wrote about this numerous times. Your creation is your own master-piece. That should be enough. 🙂

      1. I like your response “that there will alwaysbe someone that doesn’t get you. Therefore you stop creating”. I have done this a gagillion times and all because I felt like people didn’t get me. And its like you can tell by the ” silence of crickets”. Lack of +1 or Likes on Facebooks. Its hurtful and for me to ne a hypersensitive person, that is one of the hardest things for me, rejection of not being understood. Plus its apart of my type of introverted personality. I really hate that I need to know if people “get” what I’m talking about especiallyif its clear as day.
        For me, I don’t or can’t write about what I don’t feel. I don’t write about flowers or plants or looking up at the moonlight because my reality is…darker and people don’t care to hear about my reality which make me feel that they don’t care.

      2. Look, I’ve also personally always struggled with being different. My poetry is also strange and probably difficult to understand. And many people don’t like it. That’s ok, because I know there are people who are similar and eventually will understand what I’m saying. But you need to be patient and persistent. It takes time and courage … I had people in my life mocked me about this blog. Because I’m a geophyisicts and bla, bla what else. How can I write about poetry?But I don’t care – I have my experience and opinion that I share. And some portion of people like that. Well, for THOSE people my effort is worth it. Once you put things in that perspective – it changes everything for you. I hope that this will help you just a bit 🙂

  9. I’ve had problems with blogs I follow falling off My Reader and hence my radar. Which is odd considering all the recommendations I’m not the least bit interested in showing up faithfully.
    My point is, thanks for engaging with my posts, it made me wonder if you had not been writing. When I checked, I had been unsubscribed by the WP Gremlins, I guess.

      1. Things like this have happened before. Usually when WP is instituting changes. Then I made sure to get email alerts from everyone I followed and my inbox was pure chaos. Now I have only two.
        I have to find a balance as I regret missing blogs like yours that enrich my writing life.

  12. I hope I hadn’t struck a nerve here. I merely was seeking advice because I can’t help I’m an individual who has to break things down like math and I suck at math. People don’t seem to have the patients to teach me.

    1. I’m going to try to go in a different direction as far as my poetry is concerned. I just posted one just now. Its different for me because usually I write confessional poetry which tend to shock people…maybe… I don’t know.

    2. Of course not 🙂 but each creative path is different. Some people will understand and some not and vice/versa. No one can give you self-confidence except yourself in your creating. As long as you search approval from other people, to be understood and accepted -it’s a tough place to be. Considering you feeling inadequate about understanding other people’s feelings, experiences…everything takes time. Probably if you read something again you read few years ago, you will react differently. I presume I’m much older than you and real advice I can give you is to work on yourself and your writing. Everything else will fall into its own place.

  15. Funny we were just on the same page about poetry and art — my last blog was about song lyrics, which are musical poetry, and how I have a hard time understanding the cryptic messages in some. Like abstract art. But I’m not letting my inability to “understand” determine my ability to enjoy.

    2. Yes, I believe poetry and art can go hand and hand. With me I must incorporate both, but thats just how I express myself. Every poem must accompany an artistic expression whether it be surreal or abstract. Which at times create a great metaphoric poem which is intriguing and interesting.

  17. All different minds in the world, write different kinds of poetry. Some we understand, some we don’t. At the end of the day – poetry isn’t meant to be understood, rather loved by its flow of creation and its beautiful imagery of inspiration we touch upon the human race. 🙂
