  1. I’m about to reblog this to Write Through It, my blog on writing and editing. It’s so applicable to writing. When I’m editing my own work or the work of others, I often think “pruning” or “weeding.” I’m cutting back and clearing space so the important stuff comes through and (with a work in progress) keeps growing. That’s what I thought when I read this quote this morning. A poet I workshopped with many years ago talked about watching out for the “soft ice” in your work — the ice that won’t support your weight. That’s it too.
